The 2010 The Travel Corporation International Sales Conference was recently held over the period of October 03rd to 08th in Cape Town, South Africa. Taking the form of an incentive trip for over 350 of the company’s top performing executives and sales managers, delegates represented a great opportunity for Destination South Africa seeking to compete and win on the global tourism stage. For this reason the conference was viewed by South Africa’s tourism industry as a very important event in 2010.

Hosts of the conference, the Tollman family, represent pioneers for tourism. Originally from South Africa, over four generations, the family has worked with courage, creativity, conviction and commitment to see the tourism industry build and better itself for the benefit of the destination, travellers and the local industry. Today, the Tollmans represent a significant travel organisation in the world, composed of over25 international travel and tourism companies including successful niche tour operators, boutique hotels and river cruise ships and other leisure interests acrossover 40 offices on five continents withmore than 3,500 staff.

Importantly, the conference took place alongside the occasion of the 80th Birthday of Mr Stanley Tollman the founder of TTC. In addition to his active presence throughout the conference, to mark the significance of the timing of holding the conference in his homeland, with his family by his side, and surrounded by the leaders of the enterprise, representing his life’s work all around, Mr Tollman made sizeable, meaningful donations to five South African charities including The Amy Biehl Foundation , the Desmond Tutu Peace Centre, and the Make A Difference Foundation chaired by former Captain of the 1995 World Cup Rugby winning Springbok team, Francois Pienaar.

Speaking of the donations and their personal meaning to the founder of the corporation, Brett Tollman, CEO of The Travel Corporation and son of Stanley Tollman stated:

“Holding The Travel Corporation’s first global conference in a decade in our homeland, and at the time of my father and our founder’s 80th Birthday, is a remarkable moment for us all. His generosity of spirit in making these donations to not just one but five South African foundations which he believes in, is an important example for each and every one of us.”

Celebrating an 80th birthday is always a special event.

And when I hear of someone choosing to donate and give charity to those in need and for other good causes, especially on their birthday, it makes me a bit more optimistic about the future of mankind. :)

Thank you Stanley.
